Naruto Episode 004 - Pass or Fail: Survival Test At The Academy, Naruto Uzumaki, Sasuke Uchiha, and Sakura Haruno of Team 7 are eagerly awaiting their first training session with their sensei. While waiting in their classroom, Sakura tries to calm Naruto down, as he's anxiously pacing nearby the door. Naruto is somewhat angry that their sensei is extremely late. All of the other teams have already left with their sensei, not even Iruka, The Academy teacher is there. Sakura begins yelling at Naruto because he's setting an eraser inside the door as a trap for their sensei. Naruto feels he deserves it for being so late. Sasuke is sitting by his lonesome, looking unamused. Sakura doesn't want to be apart of it, even though her inner self thinks it's pretty funny. Sasuke doesn't believe a Jounin, or high-level ninja, would fall for such a trick, and Sakura agrees. Just as Sakura is about to continue yelling at Naruto, a gray-haired man walks through the door and is hit with the eraser. Naruto laughs with satisfaction as his trick worked, and Sakura repeatedly apologizes for Naruto's ruse. Sasuke wonders how he could be a Jounin, falling for such a simple trick. The gray-haired man picks up the eraser, and tells Team 7 that his first impression isn't good, he doesn't like them. Outside the Academy, the four of them are gathered, and their sensei would like for everyone to introduce themselves. Sakura asks what they should speak about, and the gray-haired man tells them to list their likes, dislikes, aspirations, hobbies, etc. Naruto tells their sensei he should introduce himself first, and he does. His name is Kakashi Hatake, he doesn't plan on telling them his likes/dislikes, he has no plans for the future, and he has a lot of hobbies. Kakashi tells them it's their turn to introduce themselves, as Sakura can't believe all they know about him is his name. Naruto introduces himself first. Naruto Uzumaki is his name, and he likes ramen, especially the ramen that Iruka-sensei buys him. He doesn't like to wait for ramen, and his hobbies are eating ramen. His dream for the future is to surpass the Hokage, so people will finally acknowledge him. Kakashi starts to think about how much Naruto's grown, and then tells Sakura she's next. Her name is Sakura Haruno, she blushes and says what she likes is a person, and stares at Sasuke. She can't even spit out what her dreams or hobbies are because she keeps staring at Sasuke. Kakashi asks Sakura what her dislikes are, and replies that it's Naruto. Naruto is shocked, and Kakashi ponders why girls her age are more interested in love than ninjutsu. Kakashi then calls upon Sasuke, and Sakura giggles. Introducing himself as Sasuke Uchiha, with many things he dislikes, but really nothing in particular that he likes. He prefers not to use the word "dream" but his ambition is to kill a certain man and resurrect his clan. The three of them stare at Sasuke, Naruto hoping that he's not the person to be killed, Sakura thinking Sasuke's so cool, and Kakashi intrigued. Kakashi tells them they are all interesting, and their missions start tomorrow. Naruto excitedly asks what they'll be doing and Kakashi tells them it incorporates just the four of them, survival training. Sakura asks Kakashi why they need training, because she believes they received sufficient training at the Academy. When Kakashi says it's special training, Naruto asks what kind of training and Kakashi begins laughing. He's laughing because when they hear what kind of they're gonna flip. Kakashi reveals to them that out of the 27 who graduated from the Academy, only 9 will become Genin, or low-level ninja. Those who do not pass the training will be sent back to the Academy, so this training has a failure rate of over 66%. Naruto looks shocked, Sakura looks disappointed, and Sasuke keeps his cool. Naruto asks Kakashi what the point of even graduating was, and he receives the answer that the graduation is just used to select those who will become Genin. Naruto can't believe it. Kakashi tells them that they will begin on the training field, and they should bring all over their Shinobi equipment. They assemble at 5 A.M! Naruto realizes he can't fail if he's to acheive his goals. Sakura believes it's a test of love, and she can't be separated from Sasuke, and like usual, Sasuke keeps his cool. Kakashi leaves them with one final word, they should not eat breakfast, because they will throw-up. Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura drearily walk towards each other. They are in a forest, and it is still dark out. Naruto and Sakura are on the verge of falling asleep, while Sasuke is ready for their survival training. The three of them wait for Kakashi, who is so late that by the time he arrives, it is around 9:00. Naruto and Sakura are flustered, and Kakashi makes an excuse about seeing a black cat. He walks over to a clock and tells Team 7 that it is set for noon. The three of them give him a blank stare as he holds up two small bells. Their mission is to take those bells from him before the clock hits noon. There are two bells, and the one who does not retrieve a bell will be tied to a tree without lunch, watching the other two eat. They all realize what the real reason was for Kakashi telling them not to eat. Sakura asks Kakashi why there is only two bells, and Kakashi tells her it is because one of them will definitely fail. The one who does not retrieve a bell will be sent back to the Academy. One of them could be sent to the Academy, or maybe even all three. He advises them to use their shuriken, because they will not take a bell from him without a killer intent. Sakura yells that he'll be in danger, and Naruto smirks because Kakashi couldn't even dodge an eraser. Kakashi provokes Naruto by telling him the weakest people generally bark the loudest. Kakashi is about to tell them when they will start, but an outraged Naruto charges at him with a kunai in hand. Before Naruto can even blink, Kakashi dodges, and ends up behind Naruto, grabbing the kunai in one hand and Naruto's head in the other. Kakashi tells Naruto to calm down, he didn't tell them to start yet. Kakashi recognizes that Naruto has come at him with an intent to kill, but Sakura and Sasuke stand dumbfounded by Kakashi's speed. Kakashi tells Team 7 that he's starting to like them, and with a "ready, set, go" Team 7 is off to retrieve the bells from Kakashi's grasp. Meanwhile, the Hokage and Iruka-sensei are conversating while drinking some tea. The Hokage knows Iruka needs to ask him something, and that they aren't just going to be drinking tea. Iruka wants to know what the jounin for Naruto's Team 7 is like, and whether or he not he is strict. The Hokage asks Iruka if he's worried, and Iruka tells him that it's because he's heard some troubling rumors about Kakashi. The Hokage hands Iruka a booklet with every Genin assigned under Kakashi. Iruka decides to take a look, but after skimming for a few moments, it's obvious he doesn't like what he sees. Back at the training grounds, Kakashi is standing out in the open. He says that the basics of a ninja are erasing your presence and hiding yourself with skill. Sasuke and Sakura are both under bushes, and Kakashi praises them for being concealed well. His assumption is wrong because Naruto arrogantly approaches Kakashi, challenging him to a fight. Sasuke can't believe how naive Naruto is. Kakashi calls Naruto "a little off" and Naruto tells him that his hairstyle is a little off and charges towards him. Kakashi looks disinterested and begins reaching for something in his satchel. Naruto stops and Kakashi tells him that the number one ninja rule is taijutsu. Naruto knows that taijutsu is hand-to-hand combat between ninja, and can't believe Kakashi is reaching for a weapon. But it is not a weapon, Kakashi pulls out his favorite novel, Come Come Paradise. Naruto is a little hesitant to attack, and asks Kakashi why he has a book. Kakashi simply tells Naruto that he wants to find out what happens next, and it won't matter if they attack him. Naruto charges towards Kakashi and throws a punch, which Kakashi easily blocks with his free hand. Naruto tries to counter his dodge with a powerful kick, but Kakashi ducks under Naruto's leg. Before Naruto can throw his next punch, he's amazed to find Kakashi behind him. Kakashi tells him a ninja should never be caught from behind. From a distance, Sakura is watching as Kakashi reveals the hand signal of the tiger. Sasuke, also from a distance, is shocked that Kakashi is about to use a fire-style jutsu. Sakura screams out to Naruto that he's going to get killed, and Naruto looks at her with a puzzled look. Kakashi tells him it's too late and screams out that he's using Konoha's ultimate taijutsu technique. Naruto is frightened, until he realizes Kakashi sticks his fingers up Naruto's butt. He shouts "One Thousand Years of Pain!" and sends Naruto flying across the training grounds. Sakura can't believe he didn't use ninjutsu, and Sasuke calls them both morons. As Naruto flies into a pool of water, Sasuke eagerly awaits his chance to attack. Kakashi continues reading his book, while Sakura doesn't think Kakashi's skill level is fair compared to their own. Naruto angrily swims towards the surface of the lake, and with great stealth, fires two shuriken towards Kakashi. Their disinterested sensei grabs both kunai with two fingers, and continues reading while spinning the shuriken on his fingers. Sasuke is shocked. Back in the meeting between Iruka and the Hokage, Iruka is in a state of disbelief over Kakashi's report. The Hokage tells Iruka that Kakashi's test is a little difficult. Iruka can't believe it, within the reports are all zeroes. The Hokage tells Iruka that Kakashi has never passed one person, and all have failed. Naruto gets out of the lake onto dry land. As Naruto crawls onto the dirt, Kakashi is there waiting for him. He asks him what's wrong, because if he doesn't get a bell by noon he won't get lunch. He adds that he's never seen someone so weak believe they will surpass Hokage. All three of them are starving, and Naruto tells Kakashi that he can still fight on an empty stomach. Sakura reveals that she didn't even eat last night because of a new diet plan. Nruto shouts to Kakashi that he was just careless, but in all actuality, his strength is drained and he's starving. He tells himself he must get a bell, though, he can't be stuck as a low-level ninja forever. With Kakashi's back turned, at least seven of Naruto's shadow clones leap out of the water. Naruto tells Kakashi that he is the careless one, and that this Shadow Clone Jutsu is his specialty. Sakura can't believe that the clones are real, not just mere illusions. Kakashi acknowledges the fact he kmows the Shadow Clone Jutsu, the forbidden technique he defeated Mizuki with. Kakashi tells Naruto that with his current abilities, he probably couldn't keep the technique lasting any longer than a minute. He adds on that no matter how many clones there are, he's still Naruto. To his dismay, he here's the bells shake. Naruto had clones come from his blindside! All of the clones grab Kakashi, and Naruto tells Kakashi with a cocky attitude that ninja aren't supposed to be caught from behind. He had left one clone in the water to sneak up on him from behind. For the pain his butt had to go through, this will be his revenge. Sakura is proud to see that Naruto is actually pretty good. Sasuke praises Naruto for such a well-devised plan. Just as Naruto is about to punch Kakashi the face, he punches one of his clones instead, Kakashi has vanished. Naruto can't believe it, and all of the clones begin arguing over who they think is actually Kakashi, using a transformation technique. After some convincing by another clone, Naruto releases the technique. There is one left out in the open, but one severely beaten one up inside a tree. Sasuke calls him an idiot for not realizing that he didn't use a transformation technique, but a replacement jutsu. He begins to explain that normally the replacement jutsu is used by quickly replacing your body with an animal or object. By making it seem like your opponent attacked, it will generally confuse them, giving you the perfect oppurtunity to attack. After Naruto grabbed Kakashi, he quickly switched bodies with one of Naruto's clones, confusing Naruto and even making Naruto use his own technique on himself. Naruto can't believe it, Kakashi dropped a bell because he was "so desperate to escape". Naruto sprints towards the bell, but before he can put a hand on the bell, a trap is sprung and Naruto is caught by a rope, hanging upside down in a tree. Naruto begins squirming, wondering what he had gotten himself into. Sasuke tells himself that it was obviously a trap, and their Jonin has absolutely no openings for attack. Kakashi appears and grabs the bell, telling Naruto to think before using a jutsu because it could be used against him. Not only that, but not to fall for such obvious traps. Kakashi begins informing Naruto that a ninja see through deception, but Naruto tells him he knows that already. Kakashi glares at the rope he's tied to and tells him he obviously doesn't because his movements are too wasted. Sasuke is shocked to see that Kakashi has finally given him an opening. He prepares his kunai in each hand and throws them towards their Jonin. Every single weapon directly hits Kakashi, and he falls into a pool of his own blood. Sakura can't believe it, and Naruto tells Sasuke he's gone way too far this time. Next Episode! You Failed! Kakashi's Final Decision Man, at this rate there's no way I can beat Kakashi-sensei. But if I don't get a bell, I fail the test, and that is not an option. He keeps saying "see through deception" which I would do if I had any idea what he was talking about. But I don't, so how do I get my hands on one of those bells? Next time: You Failed! Kakasho's Final Decision. It might look bad, but don't count me out! | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
