Naruto Episode #5 - You Failed! Kakashi's Final Decision Kakashi is standing in front of Naruto, who is hanging from a rope attached to a tree. Kakashi tells Naruto to think before using a jutsu, because it can always be used against you. He then proceeds to call Naruto an idiot for falling into such an obvious trap. A ninja must be able to see through deception, he continues on, but Naruto tells him he already knows that. Kakashi tells Naruto that he's saying it because he doesn't know. While telling Naruto his moves are wasteful, he lowers his guard, opening up an oppurtunity for Sasuke. After showing an opening, Sasuke fires a few shuriken and kunai, directly hitting their Sensei in the side. Sakura and Naruto are shocked as they watch the Jonin fall. As he hits the ground, a log appears. Kakashi was never hit, he used the Replacement Jutsu. Sasuke can't believe it was another replacement, and begins fleeing because the shuriken surely gave away his position. Sasuke realizes he fell for Kakashi's trap, the opening he revealed was done on purpose. Sasuke continues to flee as Kakashi sees him run by in a flash. Sakura is also sprinting her hardest, trying not to believe that Kakashi could have gotten to Sasuke already. She approaches a bush and begins spying on their Sensei, as he's reading his book. Sakura is relieved he didn't notice her, but she hears a familiar voice. Kakashi is actually behind her, and Sakura lets out a loud yelp. Naruto, still trapped, begins calling Kakashi a moron for his advice. He questions what "see through deception " actually means. Naruto states that he'll never be caught by one of Kakashi's traps again as he cuts himself free from the rope with a kunai. As he lands on the terrain below, another trap is sprung, and he's caught hanging upside down in the tree again by another rope. Naruto can't believe it and begins yelling. Kakashi performs a tecnique in front of Sakura. Leaves begin flying upwards in a whirlwind and Sakura looks dazed. When Sakura finally regains consciousness, it is much darker out, Kakashi is gone, and she is unaware of what just happened. Sakura hears Sasuke call out to her and she excitedly turns around. Sakura gazes upon Sasuke, who has dozens of shuriken and kunai lodged in his body. He calls for her help in a weak voice, sitting in a pool of his own blood. Sakura is terrified, and she passes out. Watching nearby from a tree branch is Kakashi, who ponders if he went too hard on her and it seemed like something she could figure out. Sasuke, perfectly normal, hears Sakura's cry. Kakashi tells Sasuke that it's ninja lesson #2, Genjutsu, or illusions. It easily tricked Sakura. Sasuke explains that Genjutsu is a type of illusionary hypnotism, and he is not the same as Naruto and Sakura, he wouldn't fall for it. Kakashi reveals himself and tells him to get a bell before talking like that. The two stare each other down in the open field. Sasuke plays the first move by launching several shuriken towards his Sensei. Kakashi tells him that attacks like that are useless. Sasuke cuts a rope with one of the shuriken, and Kakashi realizes Sasuke had set a trap. He stops short and dodges numerous amounts of ninja weapons. He turns around to find Sasuke, about to kick him in the face. Kakashi blocks the Genin's foot with with both arms crossed, and before Sasuke can kick him with the other foot, Kakashi grabs it. All of this is just a ploy, as Sasuke nearly grabs a bell, but only gets a finger on it before Kakashi springs backwards. Kakashi is amazed that he can't even read his book during their bout, and Sasuke has a determined and angry look on his face. Sakura awakens in the forest, and can't remember what just happened. She thinks to herself for a bit, and then realizes that she saw Sasuke near death. She screams out to Sasuke not to leave her behind, but he is no where to be found. Naruto is still hanging from the rope with a look of dismay and angst. He looks around the surroundings and glances at two lunchboxes on a rock just waiting to be eaten. Naruto recalls Kakashi's quote again, "a ninja must see through deception " and begins giggling. Kakashi tells Sasuke that he does acknowledge the fact that he is much different than the other two. Sasuke continues staring at Kakashi, and then rapidly begins performing some hand seals. Kakashi stares at Sasuke in amazement because no Genin should have the chakra capabilities to perform the technique Sasuke's about to perform. Sasuke perfroms his Fire Ball Jutsu, and he spews a massive sphere of fire aimed for Kakashi. When Sasuke's jutsu comes to an end, he realizes Kakashi has disappeared. He can't figure out whether or not the Jonin is above him or behind him. Kakashi shouts "below you" and his hand breaks through the earth below and grabs Sasuke's leg. Kakashi perfroms his Earth Decapitation Jutsu, bringing Sasuke through the ground. Sasuke is completely trapped underground, with only his head showing. Kakashi tells him that the third ninja fighting lesson is Ninjutsu. Kakashi asks Sasuke how he likes the technique, and tells him the pun that he's "heads above the others". He laughs, pulls out his book, and says an exposed nail should be hammered in. Naruto begins laughing, sitting down on the rock where the lunches are. He doesn't know why he should waste time getting a bell when he can just eat both lunches by himself. Before Naruto can get his hands on the lunches, he hears Kakashi's voice from behind him. Kakashi is perched upon the rock, and Naruto tells him it was a joke. Too bad Kakashi tells him he's too late. Sasuke is astonished that there's such a big difference between their power. He watches as Sakura runs through a bush, stopping to stare at Sasuke's head. Sakura stares at him bug-eyed, and when Sasuke calls her name, she screams. She passes out because she believes it is Sasuke's severed head speaking. When Sakura awakens, she finds Sasuke kneeling by her. She's amazed that he's alright and begins hugging him. Sasuke tells her to stop, but she's way too excited. Moments later, Sasuke tells Sakura that it's almost lunchtime, and he's heading out to find Kakashi. Sakura asks him why he's still going after the bell, and replies by telling her that he's already touched it, now he'll grab it for sure. Sakura understands and calls him incredible, but her inner-self realizes that she'd never be able to get a bell from their Sensei, and she'll soon be separated from Sasuke. Sakura tells Sasuke that time is almost up, so maybe they shouldn't try so hard. Sasuke is obviously extremely angered by her comments, as he glares at her with cold eyes. It is silent, and Sasuke begins reminiscing about a shadowy figure with eerie red eyes. The wind begins blowing furiously, and Sasuke says only he can kill that man. Sakura is puzzled, and asks if he's talking about Kakashi Sensei. Sasuke says that time he cried, and Sakura is still lost. Sasuke tells Sakura that he's an avenger, and he has to become stronger than that man, so he can't just hang around in Konoha. Sakura remembers what Sasuke's ambitions were, to kill a certain person. Their conversation is ended when the clock begins ringing, their time is up. Sasuke is mad that he wasted so much time, and Sakura just stands still, staring at Sasuke. Sasuke and Sakura are sitting nearby three pillars and Naruto is tied to one. Their lunches are sitting in front of them, and all three are hungry. Kakashi tells them that they sound hungry, and tells them there's more about their training. There is actually no need for them to return to the Ninja Academy. Naruto is ecstatic, and Sakura doesn't understand why, since she was unconscious for a majority of the training. Her inner-self is pumped up about staying with Sasuke. Sasuke gives a satisfied grin, and Sakura begins jumping up in the air with happiness. Naruto realizes all three of them will become ninjas, and Kakashi says that all three of them...should quit being ninjas. The tone becomes a lot less light, as all three become quite disheartened. Back in Iruka and The Third's meeting, Iruka asks the Hokage why not a single person has passed. The Hokage tells Iruka that not even he knows whether the kids are ready to become ninjas. He tells Iruka that Kakashi's judgments are correct. Iruka looks down with disappointment. Naruto asks Kakashi what he means by quitting as ninjas. They weren't able to get the bells, but why should they quit? Kakashi tells him that it means that they are all brats who don't deserve to be ninjas. Sasuke, overcome with angst, runs at their Sensei, but Kakashi restrains the aspiring ninja. He steps on Sasuke's head and tells them that is why they are brats. Sakura yells for Kakashi to get his foot off Sasuke. Kakashi asks Team 7 if they are disrespecting what it means to be a ninja, and also asks them why they think they were split into teams. Sakura asks him what he means, and Kakashi tells her they haven't grasped the answer of the test. Naruto asks what is the answer, and Kakashi says the answer is what would have let them succeed in their mission. Sakura states that she was meaning to ask that. Kakashi questions if their heads are empty, and why they don't understand the meaning of three-man teams. Naruto asks what the meaning is, with frustration. Kakashi simply tells them that it's teamwork. All of them realize it, and Sakura asks if he means to help each other. Kakashi tells her she's right, but it's too late. If they had all come at him together, they might have gotten the bells, but it's too bad for them. Sakura asks him why there are only two bells if their answer is teamwork, because even if they work together, one of them would be left out which leads to fighting, not teamwork. Kakashi knows this, and tells them it is supposed to lead to fighting. The goal was to find out who would sacrifice their own interests to work as a team. Kakashi tells Sakura that instead of working with Naruto, who was right by him, she worried about finding Sasuke, whose whereabouts were unknown. He tells Naruto that he was just running around alone. He steps down on Sasuke's head even harder and tells him that he shouldn't have assumed all of the others would get in his way, which is why he acted alone. Ninja missions are done in teams, and even though it's true an individual can be important, what's more important is teamwork. Selfish actions will endanger your teammates which could get them killed. Kakashi pulls out a kunai and puts it up to Sasuke's neck. He tells Sakura that he must kill Naruto, or Sasuke dies. They can't believe it, but Kakashi lifts his kunai and tells them a situation like that could happen. Sakura and Naruto are relieved, but Kakashi tells them that if they're taken hostage, they will have to make impossible choices before they die. Kakashi returns the kunai to his satchel, and lets go of Sasuke. He begins walking away and says that all missions are life-threatening jobs. He tells Team 7 to look at the rock where the lunches were, which has all of the village's heroes engraved in it. Naruto tells Kakashi with excitement that he will have his name on that rock one day because he won't die a loser. Kakashi tells them that it isn't engraved with normal heroes, and Naruto asks what kind of heroes they were. Kakashi pauses, and tells them that they are ninjas who were lost while serving. Naruto doesn't understand what that means, and Sakura whispers to him that they are ninjas who died so the mission could succeed. The three of them become somewhat remorseful, and Kakashi tells them that the rock is a memorial, a memorial with his best friend's name etched in it. Kakashi tells them that he'll give them one more chance. After lunch, it will be an even tougher battle for the bells. Kakashi tells Sasuke and Sakura that they can eat lunch, but they must not feed Naruto. Naruto is a little upset, and Kakashi continues on to say that it is his punishment for trying to eat by himself. Kakashi tells them that if they feed Naruto, they will be failed immediately. Naruto still can't believe it, and Kakashi tells them that he makes the rules. Meanwhile, Iruka is standing by a window, and The Third tells Iruka not to hate Kakashi, regardless of the outcome. Iruka understands, and nods his head. Sasuke and Sakura are enjoying their rice and Naruto, still tied to the post, looks displeased. He pretends that he doesn't need the food, but his stomach continues to growl. Sasuke looks at Naruto and sees his displeasement. He hands over his food to him and Sakura is appalled. Sakura asks Sasuke why he's feeding Naruto when their sensei just told him not to. Sasuke believes it's alright because he does not sense Kakashi's presence and they'll need to work together for the bells after lunch. Without Naruto, they'll all suffer. Sakura thinks about it, and then also offers Naruto her food. Naruto is so grateful that Sakura is actually being nice to him. While Team 7 is sharing their food, Kakashi is aware of what's going on as he's standing behind a large tree. Sakura tells Naruto to hurry up and eat because she's on a diet anyway, and Sasuke is probably hungrier than her. Naruto shows her that he can't eat because he's tied to the post, inferring that she should feed him. Sasuke tells them to hurry up, and an angry Sakura says she'll feed Naruto only this one time. Sakura puts a rice ball in Naruto's mouth and right after there is a huge explosion of smoke. Kakashi appears and he's furious that they disobeyed him. He tells them that they better be prepared to pay. He begins to perform some hand signals and the area becomes very thunderous and cloudy. The three of them are in disbelief and the three of them try to convince him that they had to do it, because they are a three-man team. Kakashi gingerly approaches them with a grim look on his face until he mutters the words "you pass". Kakashi explains to them that they are the first group that has ever done that, and all of the other idiots listen to every word he says. The clouds disappear and the sun begins shining, and Kakashi states his famous quote of the day, "A ninja must see through deception." Kakashi tells Team 7 that in the ninja world, people who disobey rules are trash, but people who don't take care of their friends are worse than trash. The three of them are very pleased, and Naruto begins crying, calling Kakashi cool. Kakashi informs them that the test is over and all of them pass. They will begin missions tomorrow. Sasuke keeps his cool, but Naruto and Sakura aren't afraid to show off their excitement. Kakashi tells them to follow him, so Sasuke and Sakura do, leaving Naruto behind, tied to the post as he screams for help. Next Episode! A Dangerous Mission! Journey to the Land of Waves!
