  • Naruto Episode #6 - A Dangerous Mission! Journey to the Land of Waves!

Team 7 is on a mission with Kakashi. All three members inform each other of their coordinates via radio. Their target has leapt into the air and fled from their sight. Naruto, Sakura, and Sasuke all quickly hide behind trees, preparing to capture the target. Kakashi asks them their distance between the target and Naruto tells him 5 meters, and he's ready to receive the signal. Sakura and Sasuke also agree that they're ready, and with little hesitance, Kakashi tells them to move in. The three of then swiftly move in for the target and Naruto grabs it. It's a mere brown cat. Kakashi asks them if they can verify that it's their target while Naruto is being severely scratched by the cat's claws. Sasuke verifies that the cat is indeed the lost pet 'Tora' and Kakashi confirms that their mission is accomplished. Kakashi is startled when Naruto's disgruntled voice comes through the radio very loud. He hates doing these types of missions, and he especially hates cats.

An enormous woman begins choking poor Tora to death with hugs. She is a feudal lord's wife, and she is very grateful. Naruto believes the stupid cat deserves to be squashed, and Sakura realizes why the cat ran away in the first place.

The Hokage tells Squad 7 that their next mission has several tasks that need to be completed. Baby-sitting a 3-year old, grocery shopping for the mother, digging up potatoes, but then the Hokage is interrupted by Naruto. Naruto tells the old man that he wants to go on a real mission, something challenging and exciting, not these boring missions for little kids. Sasuke believes Naruto has a point, and Sakura just thinks he's a pain. Kakashi expected something like this to happen. Iruka slams his hands on the table and scolds Naruto because he's a simple Genin, and most start out with simple missions to develop his skills and prove himself. Naruto continues to complain that baby-sitting isn't a real mission, but Kakashi slugs him on the top of the head to quiet him down.

The Hokage begins to explain to Naruto that their village gets a large amount of requests daily, from baby-sitting to assassinations. The requests are recorded, analyzed, and then given a letter rank based on difficulty. He adds that all ninja are also ranked. The Hokage is at the top, then Jounin like Kakashi, then Chunin like Iruka, and then Genin like Squad 7. The requests are given to ninjas with the proper experience, Jounin receiving A-rank missions, Chunin receiving B and C-rank missions, and Genin receiving C and D-rank missions. When a request is fulfilled, or the mission is completed, a fee is given towards the village. Since Squad 7 are new Genin to the village, they are given D-rank missions. The Hokage looks up to find Naruto, not paying attention at all, talking about the ramen he had yesterday. The Hokage silences him, but Naruto tells him to stop lecturing him like he is his grandfather. He claims that he doesn't pull pranks anymore, and he is a ninja wanting a ninja mission. Naruto begins pouting, and Kakashi sighs because he'll be hearing about this later. Iruka and the Hokage both chuckle. The Hokage praises Naruto's determination, and grants him the right to try a C-rank mission. They will be bodyguards on a journey, and Naruto can't believe it. Naruto demands to know if they're guarding a princess, or something like that, and the Hokage cuts him off and says he'll bring him in right now.

An old man, guzzling down some liquor, wlaks through the door. He can't believe a bunch of brats are going to be guarding him. He calls out to the "short one with the idiotic look on his face" and he asks if he's supposed to believe he's a ninja. Naruto wonders who that is, but when he realizes he's shorter than both Sasuke and Sakura he begins threatening the old man for making fun of him. Kakashi restrains him and says he's not allowed to demolish their client, since it doesn't work that way. The man takes another swig of the alcohol and introduces himself as Tazuna, a master bridge-builder who must return to his country. He's building a bridge that will change everyone's lives so he expects his bodyguards to be willing to sacrifice themselves for his cause.

Meanwhile a ninja appearing in the form of a shadow is swiftly running through the forest towards Konoha.

At the village gate Squad 7 and Tazuna are about to head off on their first major mission. Naruto yells out in joy because it's his first time leaving the village. Tazuna asks Kakashi if Naruto is actually going to be able to guard him. Kakashi tells him not to worry because he is a Jounin. Naruto is very insulted over Tazuna's comments and questions why they have to guard the geezer. He tells Tazuna to never insult a ninja, especially one of the greatest ninja like himself who will become Hokage one day.

The shadow-like ninja is still running through the forest approaching Konoha.

Tazuna chugs down some more from his bottle and tells Naruto that a Hokage is strong and wise but he is puny and brainless. If Naruto became Hokage he'd grow wings and fly. Naruto is once again insulted and tells Tazuna to shut up. He shows his determination in becoming Hokage, and when he does, everyone will have to acknowledge that he's the strongest ninja in the village. Tazuna doesn't really care and Kakashi has to restrain Naruto again. There are two mysterious ninja hiding in a tree watching Squad 7 and Tazuna, most likely the ones who were approaching Konoha.

As the five of them begin walking, Sakura asks if there are ninja in the Land of Waves. Kakashi tells her that there isn't any in the Land of Waves but there are many Hidden Villages with different customs and traditions where many ninja reside. On their continent, the Hidden Villages have great military power. A small island like the Land of Waves has protection from the sea, so there is no need for ninja. The five villages that contain ninja are the Lands of Fire, Water, Lightning, Wind, and Earth. Each occupying a vast landmass, these countries are known as the Five Great Shinobi Nations. The Land of Fire has the Village Hidden in the Leaves, the Land of Water has the Village Hidden in the Mist, the Land of Lightning has the Village Hidden in the Clouds, the Land of Wind has the Village Hidden in the Sand, and the Land of Earth has the Village Hidden in the Stone. Each leader of these Hidden Villages are given the name 'Kage' which means shadow. Hokage, Mizukage, Raikage, Kazekage, and Suchikage are the five leaders or five shadows that rule over thousands of ninja.

Sakura acts amazed about the Hokage's status, but wonders how the old man is so important. Naruto's Sexy Jutsu worked on him so he couldn't be that great. Kakashi scolds them for insulting the importance of Lord Hokage. He tells them they can relax though, they won't be battling any other ninja on a C-ranked ninja. Tazuna looks a bit flustered after hearing this.

The five of them continue onwards on their path to the Land of Waves. As they walk past a puddle, Kakashi stares at it for a little while, and they keep going. Two mysterious ninja pop out of the puddle and extend chains from claw-like contraptions on their hands, tying Kakashi together. They both pull as hard as they can and they tear Kakashi into shreads. Naruto, Sasuke, Sakura, and Tazuna are all shocked as they watch Kakashi's remains drop to the dirt. The two ninja appear behind Naruto and begin snickering.

Naruto is terribly frightened as the two ninja tell him he's next. As they extend their chains from their claws again, Sasuke leaps into the air and tosses a shuriken and kunai towards the chains. He is successful in binding the chains to a tree with the shuriken and kunai. The two ninja are annoyed that they can't get loose. Sasuke kicks both of them in the face and the chains break. They immediately head towards Tazuna, Naruto, and Sakura. Naruto is still frightened and Sakura knows she has to stop them. She readies a kunai as the ninja approaches her quickly. As Sakura protects Tazuna, Sasuke runs towards Sakura to protect her, but out of no where Kakashi appears and grabs both ninja in a headlock. Sakura is shocked to see Kakashi alive, but Sasuke just thinks he's a show-off. Naruto looks over to where Kakashi's remains formerly were and they were a pile of logs. He had used the Replacement Jutsu. Kakashi apologizes to Naruto for not saving them earlier, he just didn't think Naruto would freeze up like he did. Tazuna looks relieved as Kakashi praises Sasuke and Sakura. Naruto can't believe how useless he was and how calm Sasuke was, like he'd battled a thousand times. Sasuke asks Naruto if he's hurt, and then mocks him by calling him a scaredy-cat. Naruto is angered but Kakahsi tells him not to move. The ninja who attacked them had poison in their claws, and it's already in his blood. He tells him the more he moves around, the more the poison will spread. Kakashi targets Tazuna and tells the flustered man they need to talk.

Kakashi tells the group that the ninja who attacked them are Chuunin from the Village Hidden in the Mist. Their specialty is relentless attack, meaning they will attack no matter what the sacrifice. The two Chuunin ask Kakashi how he knew about their ambush. Kakashi knew it because there was a puddle on the ground when it hadn't rained in weeks. Tazuna asks Kakashi why he left the fighting to the Genin and Kakashi replies that he could have taken them out quickly, but he wouldn't have learned anything. Kakashi stares at Tazuna through the corner of his eye and says he needed to find out who they were attacking, and what they were after. Tazuna doesn't understand, but Kakashi clarifies that he wanted to know if they were after Squad 7, ninja attacking ninja, or after Tazuna, the master bridge builder. Kakashi tells Tazuna that when he filed for a request, he requested standard protection from robbers and highway-men, not ninja attempting to assassinate him. Their C-rank mission is at least a B-rank mission, maybe even higher. All they were to do was escort him to his bridge, and guard him while he completes his work. If they knew they were protecting him against other ninja, they would have staffed it differently and charged more money. Kakashi demands to know why Tazuna lied. Sakura says that they are merely Genin and that they should go back to treat Naruto's wound. Kakashi agrees that Naruto's hand could be a problem, and maybe they should return. Naruto takes a kunai out of nowhere and stabs his own hand. Everyone is shocked, and Naruto asks himself why he's so different. Sakura tells him to stop, but Naruto goes on about how he's been training for hours just to get stronger and reach his dream. He makes a promise by the wound in his hand that he'll never need to be rescued, he'll beat Sasuke, and he'll never give up on Tazuna. Kakashi tells Naruto that his speech was...erm...cool? But if he loses anymore blood he could die. Naruto begins frantically waving his arms around because he's too young to die.

Kakashi grabs Naruto's arm, preparing to stop the bleeding, but he's astounded that the wound is already beginning to heal. Naruto is scared of the serious look on Kakashi's face, and he questions his own health. Kakashi tells him he'll be alright and tapes up his hand. Kakashi wonders if the healing power is from the Nine-Tails Fox.

Meanwhile, in a dark forest, a lone hut stands. Within this hut a small man wearing glasses shouts at another one for failing, as he paid a lot of money for an assassin. The other man, with a creepy, raspy voice, points an enormous sword right at the short man's throat and tells him to stop whining. This time, he will go personally and his sword will be the last thing "he" sees. The short man isn't so sure, because Tazuna has high-level ninja guarding him and since their first attempt failed, they will be expecting another, one very advanced and skilled. The creepy man with the sword tells asks him who does he think he is. His name is Zabuza Momochi, the demon of the Hidden Mist...
