  • Naruto Episode #10 - The Forest of Chakra

Lying in bed is Kakashi, who supposes he had overused his Sharingan. A kind woman tells him to stay in bed, as he's too weak to move. Kakashi tells her it'll be a week before he'll be able to move normally again, so he better take her advice. Team 7 enters the room with Tazuna and Sakura tells Kakashi that he should stop using the Sharingan if it causes such a strain on his body, even if it is that powerful. Kakashi refuses, and Tazuna tells everyone that he did take out one of the most powerful assassins, so they should be alright for awhile. Sakura asks Kakashi about the masked ninja again, and Kakashi tells him he's an elite ninja apart of the Black Ops, or Inferno Squad. They dispose of every part of a rogue ninja's body because an enemy ninja could study the ninjutsu, chakra, or medicines used by that specific ninja, and learn his village's secrets. For instance, if Kakashi were to be killed, an enemy could analyze his Sharingan, and maybe even use it against their village.

Meanwhile, the masked ninja is preparing to deal with Zabuza's body. He states that he'll remove the bandages and drain some of the blood. Out of no where, Zabuza grabs the boy's hand and tells him he'll do it himself. Zabuza is actually alive, and the masked ninja is surprised to see him up so early. Zabuza tells the boy, Haku, that he is brutal. Zabuza orders Haku to take off the mask, but Haku has taken a liking to it. He did trick Kakashi and the rest with it, and if he hadn't intervened, Zabuza would certainly be dead. He takes off the mask but Zabuza is displeased that Haku would put him in a temporary death state with the needles he threw. Haku tells him that he didn't want to wreck his flawless body, and the pressure points are easier to hit through the neck. Zabuza struggles to get up and Haku tells him that he'll be immobile for at least a week, but if he's stubborn as usual, it'll take half the time. Zabuza comments on Haku's cleverness and innocence, a hard combination to find, which is why he keeps the boy around. Haku tells him that he is only a kid, and also informs him that the mist has cleared. Zabuza, with an evil stare, vows that he'll see through the Sharingan next time.

Kakashi, still in bed, is at trouble with himself. He knows Zabuza is dead, but he has a strange feeling that he missed something. Naruto tells him to continue on with what he was saying. Kakashi tells them that tracker ninja usually deal with bodies on the spot, and he asks them if they remember what the boy did with the body. Sakura guesses he took it somewhere. Kakashi asks why, why he wouldn't deal with body quickly on the spot. He also asks if the three Genin remember what weapon he used. Sasuke contemplates it for a moment and remembers the throwing needles. Sasuke realizes the truth, and Kakashi tells them that it all doesn't add up. Tazuna asks them all what they're yammering about, as Kakashi demolished the assassin. The Leaf Jonin decides to tell them the truth, Zabuza is alived. Tazuna, Sakura, and Naruto can't believe it. Naruto asks how that could be, and Sakura adds that Kakashi did in fact check his pulse and confirmed his death. Kakashi tells them that his death was just a temporary state to simulate death. The weapon Haku used were needles, a type of needles that will only kill an enemy by hitting a vital organ, not the neck. Since the tracker used those needles, and carried Zabuza's body away, they can confirm that the boy was not trying to dispose of his body, but save him. Tazuna thinks that Kakashi is overthinking the situation but Kakashi's deductions are in fact, correct. Kakashi is surprised to see that Naruto is actually glad to hear that Zabuza is alive. Sakura asks what they'll do, as Kakashi is invalid at the moment. Kakashi chuckles and tells her that he's well enough to train them. Sakura shouts at Kakashi to be reasonable, as he could barely defeat Zabuza, how could they? Kakashi tells her that if it weren't for them, he couldn't have defeated Zabuza. They all have grown, and Naruto has grown the most.

Naruto assures Kakashi that he'll get even stronger and everything will be alright, but a little boy appears randomly and disagrees. Tazuna welcomes the little boy, his grandson Inari. Inari hugs his grandfather as his mother scolds him for being so rude to the ninja who helped Tazuna. Tazuna tells him that it's alright, as he's rude to them also. Inari tells his mother that the ninjas will just be killed anyway. Naruto is outraged by this and tells the boy that he's greater than a super ninja, he'll be the next Hokage, and Gato won't stand a chance against him. Inari tells Naruto that there is no such thing as heroes, he's just filled with stupid ideas. Naruto charges at the young boy before being grappled by Sakura. Inari tells them that if they want to live, they should return to where they came from. He storms out of the room to go look at the ocean. Tazuna aplogizes to them as Naruto growls with anger.

Naruto begins his way up the stairs, believing he's going to put little Inari in his place. As the Genin approaches Inari's bedroom, he hears the boy crying. Naruto watches as Inari weeps atop a desk in front of his window. He's grasping a picture of a man and shouts out for his daddy.

In a nearby forest, Kakashi declares the beginning of their training. He'll start with a review of chakra, the energy source vital to a ninja. Sasuke knows all of this already, and Naruto agrees that he knows a lot about "catra". Kakashi corrects his pronunciation and signals Sakura to give an explanation. Sakura explains that chakra is a ninja's energy to use jutsu, and the source of all his/her power. There's two types of chakra, physical energy which comes from all of the body cells, and spiritual energy which is intensified through training and experience. Both energies must be intertwined to perform a jutsu. A hand sign unleashes the chakra. Kakashi praises Sakura on her absoultely correct explanation. Naruto finds the explanation stupid because they're already using jutsu. Sasuke agrees with Naruto for once. Kakashi tells them they're wrong, they haven't mastered their chakra, they've barely scratched the surface. He reminds them of what Sakura had said, that they must incorporate both chakra energies. A proportion must also be created for the certain amount of chakra needed for each specific jutsu. They have been merely guessing those proportions, and they must master their chakra control or their jutsus will be a complete waste of energy. Naruto asks Kakashi how they can master their chakra control. Kakashi tells them that they must train so much that it becomes second nature, and they must be willing to put their life on the line. Sakura asks how, and their Sensei tells them climbing trees will. All three of them don't believe him. He tells them that they may not use their hands, and Sakura hopes he's kidding. Kakashi performs a hand sign and heads off towards the tree with his crutches. Right before their eyes, he limbers up the side of the tree. He eveb walks upside down on a tree branch. He teaches them to focus the chakra towards the soles of their feet and use it to connect to the tree. This method is one way of applying the power of chakra. Sakura doesn't think this will help them defeat Zabuza but Kakashi tells her it'll be the only way they defeat him. First, they concentrate a precise amount of chakra to a precise point of their bodies. This mix of physical and spiritual energy can even be difficult for advanced ninja. The bottoms of the feet are the most difficult point to concentrate chakra, so by mastering this, they'll be able to master any jutsu, theoretically. The second part is maintaining a certain amount of chakra at that point, which is crucial in battles.

Kakashi tells them that he could talk about that all day, but they aren't going to improve at all. It's time to practice, and he throws three kunai near the three of them. They are to use the kunai knife to mark the highest point they reach on the tree, without using their hands. Each time they go, they should strive to get higher than their last mark. At first they should run up the tree, to gain momentum, and the rest will come to them naturally. Naruto grabs the kunai and points at Kakashi. He's the ninja who's grown the most, so this'll be easy for him. Kakashi comments that he's definitely the ninja that talks the most.

The three of them concentrate the chakra in their feet and prepare to run. Naruto takes off towards the tree, and slips back downward after taking two steps up the bark. Sasuke is a little more successful, as he makes it around twelve steps. Sasuke realizes it's much harder than he thought, as if you concentrate too much chakra, you'll put a hole through the tree bark, but if you concentrate too little, you'll just fall like Naruto. While Naruto is rolling on the floor, Kakashi believes both of their performances were expected. They all hear Sakura commenting on how fun the excercise is. She's already made it to the top of the tree. Kakashi informs them that the female member of their team has the best chakra control easily. Naruto compliments Sakura, but she is displeased that Sasuke doesn't even care. Kakashi edges Naruto on by telling him that Sakura now has a better chance of becoming the Hokage, and he also adds that the Uchiha clan probably isn't as great. Sakura yells at Kakashi because Sasuke will hate her now. Kakashi is glad that he's motivated the two ninja, because the reason they don't find this excercise easy is because they both have much greater chakra amounts than Sakura. If they master the excercise, they'll become much more powerful. Naruto states that first he'll match Sasuke's height, than he'll reach the top! Young Inari watches from behind a tree and just thinks it's a waste of time. He invisions the picture of his father from before and runs off.

Meanwhile, in a hut in the middle of a forest, Haku is caring for Zabuza. Gato and a couple of his cronies barge through the door and he sarcastically talks about how "great" Zabuza is. He even mocks Zabuza's title as "Demon of the Hidden Mist" by calling him the "Coward of the Hidden Mist". Haku gets up and both of Gato's followers begin to draw their swords. Gato steps forward and tells the two men to take it easy. He approaches Zabuza in bed and tells him to explain the fiasco. Zabuza doesn't reply and Gato is about to hit him but Haku grabs the gangster's arm and begins clenching it. Haku tells Gato never to touch Zabuza, and he yells that his wrist'll be broken if Haku doesn't let go. Gato's two men charge in to stop Haku but right before their eyes the young boy darts back and grabs both of their swords. The two subordinates can't believe the boy's speed, and Haku tells both of them that he's in a very bad mood. Gato tells Zabuza that he'll give him one more chance, after that, he's cutting his ties with him, meaning no one will cover for the renegade. The angered Gato proceeds to leave the room with his two men. Zabuza tells Haku that none of that was necessary, as he grasps a kunai knife behind his pillow. He probably would have killed Gato if he was threatened in any way. Haku tells him that it's too early to kill Gato, as they'll have no one covering for them. The trackers will be after them again. Zabuza agrees.

Back in the forest, Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura are all exhausted from this training. Sakura can't believe that Naruto and Sasuke can just keep going like they are. She watches Naruto keel over in pain. She realizes that he's doing the worst in the training, and she figures he'll just throw a tantrum and quit soon. Naruto looks up at his marks on the tree, a little higher than his own head, and he begins to throw a tantrum. Sakura compliments herself on figuring out how predictable Naruto is, but then Naruto approaches her. Sakura is shocked to her Naruto asking her for tips. Naruto tells her not to tell Sasuke, and Kakashi is happy to see that Naruto is making some progress. The young boy wields more chakra than Sasuke, and even himself, the powerful Jonin.
